In 2014, Lindsay began collaborating with Esther Perel, whose viral TED talk released the year prior established her as one of the world’s leading relationship experts. Their goal was to scale Esther’s cultural impact, and create a financially sustainable business.
Together, they co-founded Esther Perel Global Media, an ambitious project that would go on to translate Esther’s 30 years of experience as a clinician, speaker, and author into products and services designed to help people develop thriving personal relationships, at scale.
In the early phase of the business, Lindsay’s role was multifaceted and cross-functional, encompassing high level strategy, contract negotiation, accounting, project management, publicity, team building, and hiring. One of her first projects was pitching, developing, and launching Rekindling Desire, a digital course that unpacks Esther's core relationship philosophy in compelling, digestible formats.
As the business grew, Lindsay identified campaigns and events that would drive consistency and clarity for Esther’s brand. She managed a coordinated effort between internal and external teams to launch Esther’s New York Times best-selling book, THE STATE OF AFFAIRS (HarperCollins), and provided on-site support during Esther’s 3-month book tour.
Lindsay worked closely with Esther to direct and produce the highly acclaimed podcast franchise, WHERE SHOULD WE BEGIN? (Audible/Gimlet) and provided editorial direction for keynotes such as SXSW and Summit Series. Leveraging Esther’s skills as a coveted and compelling public speaker, Lindsay also played a crucial role in growing her speaking business across industries and global markets.
Over the course of their partnership, Lindsay and Esther built a globally recognized media company that spans multiple properties and platforms, and its owned and operated channels now reach an audience of over 850K people.
“We’ve launched a book, a podcast, and workshops in less than three years, and it’s because I teamed up with the perfect business partner, Lindsay Ratowsky. I’m very happy to tell people that I couldn’t have done anything without her. She co-founded the brand.”
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City, writer Suleika Jaouad felt a familiar feeling. Ten years earlier, she was sent into isolation with a rare cancer battle, starting her early 20s with an experience that is completely foreign to most people, let alone people her age. Throughout her time in the hospital, she began journaling with loved ones to remain connected during the days she spent alone.
While brainstorming project ideas, she floated the concept of a community project in a similar vein. In under a week, Brightside set up the technology, designed a webpage, and helped coordinate a volunteer team to execute the vision.
The Isolation Journals delivered creative prompts for a consecutive 100 days. We curated prompts from artists, writers, musicians, thinkers, and community members to spark reflection. Some of those contributors included Elizabeth Gilbert, Rachel Cargle, Jon Batiste, and Maggie Rogers.
Over 100,000 people from across the globe registered to participate, creating an estimated 1 million+ creative acts during 2020’s worldwide lockdown. The project has received coverage in Vogue, The Late Show with Steven Colbert, and the Tim Ferriss blog.
The Isolation Journals is the perfect example of how we approach our work. We draw out the unique traits of each of our clients. Then apply our knowledge of various creative industries to build authentic brands. One size never fits all.
Generation Women is a multigenerational storytelling event based in NYC. At their monthly show, six women of note share an original, true story on a theme. Of those women, one is in her 20s, her 30s, her 40s, her 50s, her 60s, and her 70s+.
Brightside has worked with Generation Women since their inception in 2017 as an advisor. We helped build the initial concept into a vibrant live show that regularly sells out and has recently moved to the iconic Joe’s Pub theater in the East Village. We’re also helping to produce and pitch a podcast pilot.
“Lindsay helped clarify the show’s mission and has given guidance on when, how, and why to expand into other avenues. Her casting suggestions are excellent, and she’s made many important introductions. Her enthusiasm and sincere belief in the power of women’s stories has buoyed us through tough times. I can’t imagine making the show without her.”
